The first mention of the church dates back to 1779, when the wife of Vsevolod Olhovich Maria Mstislavovna was buried in the church. In addition, in 1194 the legendary hero of the chronicle “A Tale of Igor’s Regiment” Prince Sviatoslav of Kyiv was buried on the territory of the church.

The temple has been reconstructed many times. In 1929 it was declared a historical and cultural museum. And in 1994 it became a functioning church again. In June 2011, the parish was transformed into St.  Kirilliv Monastery.

The architecture of the temple, the ancient frescoes can not leave indifferent its visitors. At one time, the world-famous artist Mikhail Vrubel took part in the restoration work.
