The art of making dolls from thread has a thousand-year history and was known to our ancestors long – long ago! In ancient times it was believed that such artefacts could protect the house, family members from evil spirits, diseases and various problems. And, on the contrary, to protect the harvest, to attract prosperity and good luck to the house. Therefore, such work required attention and certain skills. And the techniques and rules of making motankas were protected from outsiders and passed on by inheritance. Otherwise, the magical properties of the amulet lost their power! Dolls, depending on their purpose, were decorated with clothing elements, jewellery and even dried fruit.
In the office of the Inna Foundation, during a scheduled session of the Rehabilitation programme, the organisation’s wards tried their hand at the role of ancient masters of motanka dolls. The main material, of course, was multi-coloured woollen threads. The work is very interesting, requiring attention and concentration. Working with woollen threads calms down, relieves stress and negative energy. This activity is also good for developing fine motor skills.
All participants of the class successfully coped with the task. And, although hardly anyone nowadays believes in mystical abilities of dolls made of thread, such toys can be given to friends or decorate a room, office or car!
The Inna Foundation continues its activities!
