Art therapy: making kitchen mitts

News - Art therapy: making kitchen mitts | Inna Foundation

A mitt is a kitchen utensil that is designed to grip an object, often hot. It can be the handle of a frying pan, a saucepan or a pot.

Probably the need for such an accessory appeared at the dawn of human civilisation, when people conquered fire and learned to control it for their vital purposes. It is probably the most ancient kitchen utensil. In ancient times, pieces of leather were used for such purposes. And today they use square pieces of fabric, usually quilted or knitted. Often mitts are equipped with loops – for a finger.

In the office of the Foundation “Inna” under the guidance of Olena Sushinska, the Foundation’s wards made oven mitts as part of the project “Rehabilitation”. For this purpose it was decided to use denim fabric. This is interesting, quiet work, which allows you to relax and distract from pressing problems. And most importantly, to get a positive result – an original useful thing for kitchen work!
