An old saying goes: “Praemonitus, praemunitus!” Which means forewarned is forearmed! The meaning of the phrase is that, having been warned of imminent danger, a person can now prepare well for it and cope with it. It is in this short phrase that the idea of the unique project of the Inna Foundation “Oncological Screening” lies. And now, summing up the interim results, we can safely say – such a program is vital!
As a reminder, the Foundation, together with the Brovary office of the CSD laboratory network, conducts screening examinations of women for the detection of a dangerous disease – cervical cancer.
As you know, cervical cancer occurs under the influence of the human papillomavirus (HPV) and occurs when the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells begins, which leads to the formation of a tumor. As the tumor grows, cancer cells can invade other parts of the body, which can lead to death.
In total, since the beginning of the project, 70 residents of the Brovary region have been diagnosed. And 17% of the total number of those examined had diseases that could trigger the onset of cancer. During the examination, HPV of high carcinogenic risk were identified in more than 5% of people, atypical cells in 7% of those examined. In addition, 5% have other dangerous diseases that can cause cancer over time. Therefore, everyone who received negative results of the study should contact specialists as soon as possible for appropriate consultation and treatment.
For the provision of diagnostic services, the Foundation paid UAH 50,400 at the expense of charitable funds collected during the Brovary Independence Run sports charity event.
Such high rates of carcinogenicity are amazing! After all, the Foundation is screening only one of the hundreds of known cancers! The analysis of the project shows that the experts of the World Health Organization quite rightly say that screening is the most important tool in the fight against cancer!
The Foundation invites all interested women to sign up for a screening examination. To do this, call the staff of our organization by phone – 097-576-69-94.
