We are starting a unique project to screen such a dangerous disease as cervical cancer. This disease is the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide. WHO estimates that in the absence of additional measures to tackle cervical cancer, the annual number of new cases is expected to rise from 570,000 to 700,000 by 2030, and the annual number of deaths from 311,000 to 400 000. The high mortality rate from cervical cancer is a consequence of many decades of indifference to this problem, experts say. In low- and middle-income countries, the incidence is almost double and the death rate is three times higher than in high-income countries. As you know, almost all cases of cervical cancer are caused by genital infection caused by oncogenic strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV).
Cervical cancer is preventable. And it is curable with early detection and proper treatment. That is why we have chosen to screen for this type of cancer. While the project will be held in pilot mode, the Foundation will provide a survey for several dozen applicants (approximately 100 people). Then we will evaluate the quality of services and their effectiveness. And we will make the necessary decision to expand screening services.
