For many years now, the 4th of February has been the World Cancer Day! This day was established to make people remember that the fight against cancer is of great importance for the future of all mankind! After all, the number of cancer diseases is growing every year. Accordingly, the number of deaths from such diseases is growing. In the European region, cancer accounts for more than 20 per cent of all deaths. Unfortunately, cancer is poorly treated. Therefore, cancer prevention is one of the most important problems of the 21st century.
We have already reported that experts say that one in five people on the planet will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. The main reason is low-income countries, unfortunately, Ukraine is among them, and even middle-income countries do not fully implement the recommendations of the World Health Organisation to combat cancer, and cancer treatment in some regions of the world is unaffordable for many people. Therefore, the joint statement of WHO head Tedros Ghebreyesus and IAEA head Rafael Mariano Grossi says that in just a few years, 70 per cent of cancer deaths will occur in low- and middle-income countries!
What should be done?
To reduce your risk of developing cancer, you should first of all give up very bad habits. For example, stop smoking! Non-smokers are 80 to 90% less likely to get lung cancer. Such people are less prone to cancer of the tongue, liver, lips, and other organs.
In addition, you should pay attention to your physical activity and weight. Overweight and physical inactivity can be a serious factor in the development of cancer. It is obligatory to include in the diet of fruits and vegetables, as they contain substances that prevent the development of malignant tumours. But the amount of fatty, smoked and sweet products should be avoided! They are harmful to health!
