Staff of the Inna Foundation pay great attention to the issues of proper nutrition. This is understandable! The right food means a healthy body! Therefore, we pay attention to the important news, which is aimed at the prevention of cancer!
For many years, experts have been arguing about the effect of the food additive E951 (known as aspartame) on the human body! Advocates of this supplement, usually associated with the production of certain products, have made many arguments in favor of aspartame, or at least argued that it is safe for humans. But it seems that scientists have put an end to these disputes! According to Reuters, one of the world’s largest international news agencies, the artificial sweetener aspartame, widely used throughout the world, will be declared a potential human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in the coming days!
We know that aspartame is used in popular carbonated drinks such as Coca-Cola, Snapple, chewing gum, candy, yogurt and many other confectionery products.
Just at this very time, the Joint Committee of Experts of the World Health Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization on Food Additives (JECFA), is also reviewing the use of aspartame. Its work began at the end of June, but it is already known that the committee should announce its findings on the same day that IARC publishes its decision on the carcinogenicity of aspartame – July 14 this year!
Aspartame was first approved for use in foods in 1981. Since then, it has become widely used in various products, including soft drinks such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi, chewing gum, and other sweets, including those for diabetics.
IARC representatives report that the conclusions of the IARC and JECFA committees are complementary, and the IARC conclusion on aspartame represents a fundamental step towards understanding its carcinogenicity.
Of course, such a decision may upset lovers of popular drinks and sweets, but the conclusions of experts are unambiguous, which means that now you will have to restrain your sweet tooth until manufacturers find a replacement for aspartame! After all, the additive E951 is carcinogenic and can positively influence the development of cancer!
