Palm oil accelerates the development of cancer

Desire to live - Palm oil accelerates the development of cancer | Inna Foundation

In order to prevent cancer among the population, the staff of the Inna Charitable Foundation continue to study and publish the results of scientific research in the field of oncology. Very interesting, from our point of view, is the report of a group of scientists from the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) in Barcelona (Spain). The report has been published in the journal Nature.

Cancer cells are present in every human being. However, a healthy immune system copes well with them. A dangerous disease develops when the number of such cells reaches a critical value. It is well known that cancer develops and progresses with the help of secondary centres of cancer cells – metastases. Metastases are peculiar only to malignancies and remain the main cause of death of patients with cancer. Alas, when a tumour metastasises, it is much more difficult to cure cancer. Very often it is impossible!

The experts who took part in the experiment proved that edible palm oil contributes to the development of cancer! To be more precise, we are talking about palmitic acid contained in palm oil. The study was conducted on cancer-infected laboratory mice that were fed food rich in palm oil. After long-term observation, the scientists found that such a diet promoted metastasis of oral cancer and melanoma in the mice. And the animals’ malignant tumours remained with a high degree of metastasis even without further exposure to palm oil. Scientists believe this is due to prometastatic memory and is due to changes in genes that affect metastasis function and caused by exposure to palmitic acid on them. In addition, palmitic acid appears to put cancer cells into a ‘regenerative state’, allowing them to form new cancer centres outside the tumour.

Other fatty acids such as oleic and linoleic acids found in sunflower, corn, olive and flaxseed oil did not show similar effects in the study. So such products are, from an oncological point of view, safe. But the big industrial food companies have a different opinion! The fact is that palm oil is produced from the fruit of the oil palm tree, which yields up to 4 times a year! Therefore, such oil is cheaper than olive, sunflower or linseed oil. It is widely used in cosmetics and food industry. However, now that scientists are talking about the dangers of using palm oil, people should think twice.
