Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed draft law No 5148, which bans the use of palm oil in some food products.
The law provides for a ban on the use of palm oil in many traditional dairy products. It also prohibits the use of hydrogenated palm oil and other hydrogenated vegetable fats in baby food, other food products, such as confectionery.
It is important that now a clear and understandable labeling of food products containing palm oil is introduced. And penalties are introduced for violation of the requirements of the Law.
It is expected that such measures will improve the quality of products, including baby food, to EU standards.
The Law will enter into force from the day following the day of its publication and will be enforced one year after its publication.
Earlier we reported that the Legislative Body of Ukraine adopted in the second reading and as a whole the draft law No. 5148 “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on Improving the Quality of Food Products, including those consumed by children”.
