For many years, the staff of the Inna Foundation, referring to the facts proven by scientists, reported on the pages of our website about the harm of palm oil and its impact on the development of cancer! Moreover, the World Health Organisation has strongly recommended banning the use of palm oil as an ingredient in food products. Many countries of the world have long ago put such oil ‘outlawed’. And in Ukraine, a bill to ban the use of palm oil was drafted as early as 2021. However, due to a number of reasons, perhaps even experiencing pressure from big business, lawmakers did not make a final decision on the use of palm oil in the food industry. But in the end, on 4 September, the Verkhovna Rada put an end to this important issue. The legislative body of Ukraine adopted in the second reading and as a whole the draft Law No. 5148 ‘On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Concerning the Improvement of the Quality of Food Products, including those consumed by children’. It provides for:
- banning the use of palm oil in traditional dairy products;
- prohibition of the use of hydrogenated palm oil and other hydrogenated vegetable fats in baby food;
- banning the use of hydrogenated palm oil in food products (confectionery: chocolate, ice cream, etc.).
Now be careful when shopping in the shops! Remember, the use of palm oil is very harmful and can cause cancer, therefore, according to the adopted law, the manufacturer MUST report the use of palm oil in products!
