Desire to live - Replace butter with vegetable oil! It will reduce your risk of cancer | Inna Foundation

We continue our preventive work aimed at preventing cancer! The staff of the Charitable Foundation “Inna” carefully study the news of science and medicine. Each new discovery is a chance for us to avoid dangerous diseases!

Interesting in our opinion are the results of the research of a group of scientists from Harvard University (USA). The report is published on the pages of the specialized journal JAMA Internal Medicine. The news, printed in the journal just four days ago, has already caused a great resonance! The lead author of the study, Yu Zhang, a researcher at Mass General Brigham, said of the results: “It’s amazing how significant the link we found! We documented a 17% reduction in the risk of death when we suggested replacing butter with vegetable oils in the daily diet. This is very important and good for human health.

Researchers studied dietary and health data from 221,054 people over 30 years and found that higher dietary intake of vegetable oils, especially soybean, canola and olive oils, was associated with lower mortality from cancer (and other diseases, such as cardiovascular disease), while butter consumption was associated with an increased risk of mortality from cancer and other diseases. Note that butter consumption was defined as the intake of different mixtures of butter, margarine, sandwich oils, oils added to food, baking and frying oils. Consumption of vegetable oil included oils used for frying or roasting foods, baking and salad dressing.

According to scientists, it’s all about the composition of vegetable oil and animal oil! The key difference between the two is the types of fatty acids they contain. Butter is rich in saturated fatty acids, whereas vegetable oils contain more unsaturated fatty acids.

Scientists, analyzing the causes of death of participants in the observational study, found that people who consumed animal-based oils had a 15% higher risk of death than those who avoided such a product. And those who consumed more vegetable oils had a 16% lower risk of death than those who avoided such oil in their diet.

The researchers also conducted a related analysis and found that replacing 10 grams of animal oil per day (less than a tablespoon) with equivalent calories of vegetable oils, could reduce cancer deaths by 17%! And that’s a lot!

People should consider the fact that simply replacing butter with soybean or olive oil could make a huge difference. From a public health perspective, that’s a significant number of deaths from cancer or other chronic diseases that could be prevented,” said Daniel Wang, MD, PhD (Brigham and Women’s Hospital). The scientist believes that even a small reduction in butter consumption and the inclusion of more vegetable oils in our daily diet can have significant health benefits.
