President Donald Trump, who has just taken office, signed an executive order, according to which the United States must withdraw from the World Health Organization (WHO). This is reported by the BBC.
“Oooh, now that’s a big deal,” Trump said, signing the document shortly after returning to the White House.
The executive order, which Trump signed on Monday, says the U.S. is withdrawing from the WHO “due to the organization’s failure to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic that emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan and other global health crises.”
It should be noted that WHO is actively fighting the spread of cancer. With the participation of WHO, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) was established, which is actively engaged in the identification, study and classification of carcinogenic factors.
The WHO itself took the news with sadness. “The World Health Organization regrets the announcement that the United States of America intends to withdraw from the Organization,” the official website of the organization reports. And it’s understandable! Under the Biden administration, the US remained the largest contributor to the WHO. In 2023, the country accounted for almost a fifth of its budget of about 6.8 billion dollars. How this will affect the WHO’s activities – we will soon see!
