Praemonitus, praemunitus – says an ancient proverb. Translated from Latin it means – warned, so armed! The meaning of the proverb is easy to understand – a person warned of imminent danger can always take steps to save himself. That is why we are constantly publishing the results of new research in the field of oncology and methods of cancer prevention on the pages of our site.

Most recently, an article by Harvard School of Public Health researchers at Harvard University (Boston, USA) was published on the website of the scientific journal BMJ Journals, entitled “Consumption of sweet drinks in adulthood and adolescence and the risk of early development of colorectal cancer in women.” According to its results, experts conclude that frequent consumption of sugary drinks may increase the risk of bowel cancer before the age of 50.

The researchers analyzed the dietary and medical records of 95,464 women from 1991 to 2015. The researchers reported that women who consumed more than half a pint (1 pint – 473 ml) of sugary drinks a day were twice as likely to be diagnosed with early-onset bowel cancer during the study than those who drank less than half a pint a week.

In addition, researchers have tried to find out whether there is a link between the consumption of sugary drinks in adolescence to an increase in the incidence of bowel cancer. The researchers analyzed questionnaires that 41,272 women filled out about their drinking habits between the ages of 13 and 18. According to the study, for each daily sweet drink of 250 ml, the risk of developing bowel cancer under the age of 50 increases by 32%.

In conclusion, researchers report that reducing the consumption of sugary drinks among adolescents and young people may be a prevention for cancer.

This is not the first study to confirm the relationship between frequent consumption of sugary drinks and the risk of cancer. Two years ago, an article by a group of French scientists was published in the same journal BMJ Journals. They conducted a cohort study of 101,257 people aged 18 and older. Researchers have also found a link between the consumption of sugary drinks and the risk of cancer. In the findings, the researchers said that 100% fruit juices are also positively associated with the risk of cancer in general.

Experts say that reducing the consumption of sweet drinks, fruit juices can really be a preventive way to protect yourself from a terrible disease – cancer..
